Containership

Cargo ships that carry their entire load in truck-size containers, in a technique called containerization. They form a common means of commercial inter modal freight transport.

Very Large Containership (VLCS)

A container vessel with a capacity of over 15,000TEU.

Neo-Panamax Containership

Neo Panamax -a container vessel with a width within the dimensions required to transit the Neo Panama Canal and a capacity between 13,000 and 15,000 TEU.

Classic-Panamax Containership

Classic Panamax -a container vessel with a width within the dimensions required to transit the old Panama Canal and a capacity between 3,000 and 5,000 TEU.

Gear-less Feeder Containership

Small size containership without crane, they distribute the containers brought to regional load centres by the deep-sea services and carry coastal traffic.

Geared Feeder Containership

The first and last link in the transport chain, feeders transport cargoes that are subsequently transferred to and from large, long-haul container vessels bound for destinations worldwide. For cargo handling in ports with limited infrastructure, feeders are often geared with two or three deck cranes of the slim-line type to maximise container stowage space. They distribute the containers brought to regional load centres by the deep-sea services and carry coastal traffic.
